Work has begun on the first phase of a new cycle lane along the Paseo Marítimo in Los Alcázares, marking the first step towards a continuous coastal route. The project aims to connect the seafront with a safe and environmentally friendly bike lane, while improving the overall appearance of the Mar Menor coastline.

The initial 490-metre stretch runs between Playa de La Hita and Avenida Radiobaliza Óscar. It will be a two-way lane, two metres wide, built on the inland side of the promenade to allow pedestrians and cyclists to move more comfortably without conflict.

In addition to the lane itself, the scheme includes a landscaped strip separating cyclists from walkers, as well as bike parking and a repair station. The total budget is €205,288.49, funded through the tourism sustainability programme supported by Next Generation EU investment.

Mayor Mario Pérez Cervera has said the project represents a firm step towards safer and more sustainable mobility. Tourism and Beaches councillor María José Díaz Aragón added that it will also help regenerate the Paseo Marítimo by introducing renaturalised areas and enhancing the environmental quality of the seafront.
