Orihuela officials have suspended classes throughout Thursday at four schools in Orihuela Costa: CEIP Los Dolses, CEIP Playas de Orihuela, CEIP No. 20 and IES Playa Flamenca. The measure applies only to those centres. All other schools in the municipality will operate normally.
The council has also suspended markets across Orihuela, as well as all outdoor leisure, recreational and sporting activities, for the day.
The measures follow an orange weather warning for rain and storms. Rainfall could reach 120 litres per square metre in three hours, particularly in Orihuela Costa. Residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel, keep vehicles away from areas at risk of flooding, and never cross watercourses, ravines, fords or flooded areas. Outdoor objects should be secured against strong winds.
