The Guardia Civil has rescued nine women and arrested five suspects in Torrevieja following an investigation into alleged human trafficking and sexual exploitation. The operation, known as Torrealba, began early in the summer after two women reported the abuse and control they were suffering to officers in the town.

A specialised unit from the Alicante Command took charge of the case due to its seriousness. Investigators traced the suspected activity to several properties in Torrevieja, including a nightclub and a hotel, where the women were allegedly being exploited.

During the inspections, officers worked closely with social organisations that support victims of trafficking. This cooperation helped identify additional women who might also have been at risk, prompting an accelerated police response amid fears the victims could be moved.

In late November, simultaneous searches were carried out at the locations under investigation. These resulted in the liberation of the women and the arrest of five alleged members of the trafficking network, who have since been brought before the court.
