A man wanted by the United Kingdom for a sexual assault conviction has been arrested by the National Police in San Fulgencio, Alicante. An International Detention Order had been in force since August, after British authorities suspected the fugitive had travelled to the area to evade justice. Interpol alerted Spanish police, who began efforts to track him down.
Investigators eventually located the man in San Fulgencio and set up an operation that led to his arrest. According to Spanish police, he had fled the UK after receiving a life sentence for sexual offences committed between 2014 and 2015.
Following his detention, officers completed the necessary procedures before transferring him to the Audiencia Nacional. The Central Court of Instruction will now oversee the extradition process, which will determine when the man is returned to the UK to serve his sentence.
