Torrevieja Council has confirmed that it has formally appeared before the Administrative Court in Elche following a challenge lodged by Leroy Merlin. The company is contesting the municipal licence granted for the construction of a Bauhaus store in the La Hoya sector, where major urban development is under way. Councillor Federico Alarcón said the legal action does not suspend Bauhaus’s project and does not include a request for precautionary measures.

The dispute follows an earlier appeal in which Leroy Merlin successfully argued that the obligatory public consultation phase had been bypassed. As a result, the initial licence was revoked and the procedure repeated. After completing the renewed process, Bauhaus obtained the necessary authorisation and is now permitted to begin work on its site.

The store, planned on a 40,000‑square‑metre plot with 18,000 square metres of buildable area, will sit within a wider commercial zone in La Hoya, alongside other planned retail developments. The area forms part of a large new urbanisation running parallel to the CV‑905 between San Luis and Jardín del Mar–Doña Inés.

Bauhaus, which operates 250 stores across Europe, Turkey and Iceland, currently has 12 outlets in Spain. The Torrevieja location will be its first in Alicante province. Leroy Merlin, meanwhile, already runs two stores in Orihuela Costa.
