Torrevieja Council has announced that it intends to award the contract for a major Christmas drone show to be held on Sunday 21 December along the Juan Aparicio promenade. Similar to an event staged in 2024, the show will use a minimum of 220 drones to create illuminated figures, choreographed movements and festive images linked to the city’s identity.

Two performances are planned. The first is scheduled for 18.30 and the second for around 20.00, depending on technical conditions. At least 18 pirodrones, equipped with cold‑burning visual effects, will be included in the opening display. The contractor must hold the necessary approvals from the Spanish Aviation Safety Agency to conduct drone operations of this size.

Council technicians say the event helps modernise Torrevieja’s festive programme by using emerging technology to create large‑scale visual shows. They argue it strengthens the city’s position as an innovative destination and supports efforts to reduce seasonal drops in visitor numbers.

The drone show forms part of a wider package of at least 12 contracts linked to this year’s Patron Saint and Christmas celebrations. While some major items stem from multi‑year agreements, the council’s intervention department has not identified any unlawful contract splitting, though officials note that interpretations of procurement rules can vary.
