Valencia’s regional agriculture department has confirmed that it is keeping a close watch on the possible arrival of swine fever in the Comunitat Valenciana. The department has stressed that there are currently no suspected cases in the province of Castellón and that recent testing has produced no positive results. Thousands of samples from both wild animals and farmed pigs have been analysed as part of the control effort.

Officials say a large monitoring operation is already in place. It includes specialist patrols and planned culls aimed at reducing wild boar numbers in areas close to the A-7 and AP-7, where boar populations are high and movement between regions is common. These measures are intended to minimise the risk of the virus being carried into farming zones.

The department notes that wild boar remain one of the main challenges in preventing the spread of the disease, as they act as natural reservoirs for the pathogen. Their increasing numbers and wider presence across forested and semi-urban areas have made disease control more complex.

Authorities maintain that, for now, no cases of swine fever have been detected in animals tested within the Comunitat Valenciana. They say surveillance and preventive action will continue as part of an ongoing strategy to protect the region’s livestock sector.
