Torrevieja Council has announced a significant modification to its project for a pedestrian and cycling route connecting the town centre with Torrevieja University Hospital. The original route, planned from the municipal cemetery via land near the desalination plant, has been abandoned due to conflicts with future road expansion. The council now proposes a route running parallel to the CV‑95, from the Villa Amalia–La Veleta roundabout to the hospital access roundabout in Los Balcones.

The revised project increases the estimated budget to 900,000 euros, more than double the initial figure put forward in 2022. Urban planning officials expect the work to be contracted and completed during 2026, independently of any future decision on the proposed dual carriageway scheme for the CV‑95. That road upgrade remains uncertain, as the regional government has not drafted or approved the necessary plans.

Because part of the new route will pass under the N‑332 bridge, approval is required from both the Valencian regional authorities, who own the CV‑95, and the Ministry of Transport, which manages the N‑332. The study supporting the proposal highlights the current lack of any safe walking route to the hospital, which forces residents and visitors to rely on private cars, public transport or taxis.

The council argues that the new path would improve safety, reduce dependence on vehicles, and support more sustainable travel. It would also help pedestrians avoid the hazardous shoulders of the CV‑95, which currently carries around 20,000 vehicles a day and offers little room for safe walking or cycling.
