Police in Cartagena have recovered eight pieces of gold jewellery that had been either stolen or sold without their owners’ consent. The National Police launched the investigation in early December, despite most of the incidents not being formally reported at the time. Their enquiries led them to several jewellery buy‑and‑sell shops in the city, where the items were identified and retrieved.

Two women have been arrested on suspicion of theft and misappropriation. Officers say the cases involved a range of unrelated incidents, each of which came to light as the investigation progressed. The jewellery has now been returned to its rightful owners.

Among the recovered items were several pieces of strong sentimental value. These included a gold medal belonging to a deceased woman, which had been taken by a former tenant of her home. Police also located commemorative jewellery marking the birth of a child, sold without permission by a relative of the owner.

In a separate case, three items taken from a family’s home were returned following the arrest of a domestic worker. Officers additionally recovered two wedding rings more than forty years old that had been stolen in a Cartagena hospital, leading to the arrest of the woman who had sold them.
