Emergency services in Murcia resumed their search on Friday for a man reported to have fallen into the River Segura on the night of 25 December. Firefighters focused on the area around the Poceros track in Alquerías, where a witness said he saw the man in the water. Despite several hours of work involving three fire service vehicles and multiple officers, the search was suspended on Friday afternoon without locating the missing person.

The alert was first raised when a man called the 112 emergency line to report that his companion had slipped into the river and could not get out. He said the pair had been walking along the riverbank when he noticed his friend was no longer beside him. He then heard a cry for help and glimpsed an arm in the water before phoning for assistance. Sources close to the investigation have said the caller showed signs of being under the influence of an unknown substance, which may affect the reliability of his account.

The case is now being led by the Guardia Civil, whose priority remains finding the missing man. Officers have confirmed that an unrelated disappearance reported on Christmas Day in the same area has since been resolved, with that individual later making contact. A similar incident occurred in March, when a search of the river sadly ended with the discovery of a body.
