A strong storm has been battering a 19‑metre sailing vessel that has remained grounded off Xàbia since July. The boat, named Bau Bau, became stranded during the summer and has not yet been recovered despite salvage work beginning more than a month ago.
Rough seas over recent days have complicated the already challenging efforts to refloat the vessel. Crews have faced delays as heavy waves continue to strike the hull, making the operation increasingly difficult.
Footage from the shoreline shows the boat being rocked by persistent swells. While the movement is limited, maritime experts have warned that repeated impacts from strong surf could weaken the vessel further.
Local authorities and salvage teams are monitoring conditions closely as they assess the safest way to continue the recovery operation once the weather improves.
