A thirty-two-year-old British national is in a serious condition after being shot in an underground car park in Orihuela Costa. The incident happened at around 22:00 on Thursday, when several shots were fired at the vehicle he was in. The Guardia Civil is investigating the attack and is examining whether it may be linked to a settling of scores.

Police sources have identified the victim as Peter F., who had been released on bail at the end of November after being arrested in April. He was previously accused of leading an armed gang involved in extorting cannabis clubs across the Vega Baja. His car reportedly sustained between 10 and 15 bullet impacts, and he was struck in the arm, leg, and chest.

Despite his injuries, he managed to leave the vehicle and seek help from a nearby resident, who took him to Torrevieja University Hospital. He was treated in the emergency department before undergoing surgery and has since been admitted to the intensive care unit in a serious but stable condition.

Patrols from the Guardia Civil and local police attended the scene, and the judicial police in Pilar de la Horadada are leading the investigation. Officers are working to identify those responsible as concerns continue locally about rising crime and calls grow for increased policing resources in Orihuela Costa.
