Spain’s Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has announced a programme of maintenance and conservation work on the pedestrian footbridges over the N‑332 between Torrevieja and Pilar de la Horadada. The closures will affect all four footbridges in Orihuela Costa and will temporarily stop pedestrian crossings while the pavement surfaces are repaired.

The Punta Prima footbridge will close from 15 to 19 December, followed by La Zenia from 22 to 24 December. La Regia will shut from 29 to 31 December. The Campoamor bridge will then close between 7 and 16 January. The ministry says the works are necessary to ensure the safety and durability of the structures.

These footbridges are considered vital for residents who need to cross the busy dual‑carriageway section of the N‑332, which often carries heavy traffic and is frequently used as an alternative to the AP‑7 toll road. Despite being built after years of campaigning, the four footbridges are regarded as insufficient for the 16‑kilometre coastal stretch.

Orihuela Council requested urgent maintenance in May, citing evident deterioration. The council proposed structural repairs, improved lighting and renewed paintwork as part of a wider conservation plan. The request followed a meeting between the mayor, councillors and the head of the State Roads Demarcation to discuss key infrastructure priorities for the municipality.
