Health authorities in the Valencian Community have reported a marked increase in acute respiratory infections. The latest surveillance figures show the incidence has reached 923.3 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, compared with 787.8 the previous week. Officials say the rise is largely driven by flu and respiratory syncytial virus, which is the main cause of bronchiolitis in young children. The regional rate now sits more than 400 points above the national average of 519.3 cases.

Data from week 48, covering 24 to 30 November, indicate that flu incidence has climbed to 110.8 cases per 100,000 people, more than doubling the 44.1 cases recorded a week earlier. RSV cases have also doubled, increasing from 13.4 to 27.7 per 100,000. Covid‑19 infections show a more moderate rise, growing from 13.4 to 16.6 cases.

The steepest increases continue to be seen in young children and older adults. Children under four now register 3,662.5 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, up from 3,434.6 the week before. Among those aged over 65, incidence has risen to 767.5 cases, compared with 690.9 previously.

Hospital admissions linked to severe acute respiratory infections have also increased. The rate has climbed from 13.1 to 15 admissions per 100,000 people, prompting continued calls for vigilance as winter illnesses progress.
