The mayor of Los Alcázares, Mario Pérez Cervera, has visited the works on Paseo de la Calle Mediterráneo, the site of new hydraulic infrastructure for the ProNorte II project. A large-capacity replacement well includes a 600 m³ storage tank, polyethylene conduits and more powerful, energy-efficient pumps. The installation multiplies the previous capacity tenfold to avoid discharges to the Mar Menor during torrential rain.

The works form part of upgrades to the Pronorte I and Pronorte II wastewater pumping stations. Investment exceeds €3.7 million and has been provided by the Directorate General for Water of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, using European Union funds. The improvements will increase storage and enable faster, safer evacuation of water in critical moments.

Mayor Mario Pérez Cervera said the new well multiplies by ten the capacity of the previous installation and will help retain sewage in periods of intense rain to prevent overflows. He described it as a key piece for building a safer, more efficient and environmentally respectful sanitation system, and the council says such investments are essential to protect the local environment and move towards a more sustainable municipality.
