Spain’s state weather agency, Aemet, has activated a yellow weather warning for strong winds in the provinces of Valencia and Alicante. Forecasters warn of gusts reaching up to 70 kilometres per hour, alongside coastal conditions bringing waves of between two and three metres.

In the province of Valencia, the alert covers parts of the northern coastline and southern inland areas. The yellow warning for wind is due to come into force at 6.00 pm on Monday and remain active until 2.59 am on Tuesday.

Along the Alicante coast, Aemet has declared a pre-emergency for coastal conditions. Strong winds are expected along both the northern and southern coastline, with gusts of up to 60 kilometres per hour and waves that could exceed three metres. The coastal warning is in place from midday on Monday until 11.59 pm.

The latest alerts follow a very disruptive weekend across the region, when strong winds led to hundreds of emergency call-outs. Fire crews dealt with fallen trees, damaged roofs and unsafe structures, prompting closures and cancellations in several towns.
