Torrevieja’s local government has granted permission to demolish buildings at numbers 4 and 5 on Paseo de la Libertad, clearing the way for the construction of a four-star superior hotel in the future port area. The project has the required urban planning compatibility certificate and is expected to significantly increase hotel capacity in the town centre.

The buildings stand opposite ongoing port redevelopment works and include two ageing properties of three storeys with long-vacant commercial units, although two homes remain occupied. The site is considered strategically important, helping to improve the link between the town and its seafront as part of wider regeneration plans.

At the same time as approving the licence, Mayor Eduardo Dolón met representatives from the Hotusa and Masa hotel groups at the FITUR tourism fair in Madrid to discuss the possibility of further hotel projects in the area. The council has previously amended its planning rules to encourage hotel development, allowing greater building heights and added facilities.

Torrevieja currently has thirteen hotels with just over 1,600 beds, most of them three-star establishments. The council believes new developments will strengthen the local tourism offer and create more employment opportunities.
