A passenger train operated by FEVE has collided with the arm of a crane lorry in Cartagena, in an incident that left several people needing medical attention. The crash happened on Thursday in the Alumbres area, near Los Partidiarios, around two kilometres from La Unión.

According to the Government Delegation in the Region of Murcia, the crane vehicle was not linked to Renfe or Adif and was carrying out maintenance work unrelated to the railway infrastructure. The crane arm entered the railway clearance gauge and struck the side of one of the carriages, smashing windows. The train, which was travelling from Cartagena to Los Nietos, did not derail.

Emergency services treated six passengers in total, including two eighteen-year-olds, a twenty-six-year-old man, a fifty-year-old man, and two women aged sixty-two and seventy-four. One person suffered minor cuts, while others were treated for anxiety. All were taken to Santa Lucía and Santa María del Rosell hospitals in Cartagena.

There were sixteen passengers on board at the time, all of whom were safely evacuated and given alternative transport. Train services on the line were temporarily suspended but resumed at around 1.15 pm. The Guardia Civil has opened an investigation into the incident.
