The Guardia Civil has dismantled a criminal group based in the town of San Javier, arresting thirteen people suspected of carrying out a wave of burglaries and thefts across the Region of Murcia and parts of Alicante province.

The investigation began last year after officers detected a rise in crimes at homes in San Javier. Police say the group mainly targeted properties when residents were away, either forcing entry or taking advantage of doors or windows left unlocked. Shops in San Javier, San Pedro del Pinatar and Orihuela were also affected.

Investigators linked the suspects to around twenty-five offences, including eight burglaries, fifteen thefts, the theft of a vehicle and one robbery involving threats of violence against shop staff. Stolen items included jewellery, electronic goods and small household appliances, which were later sold on the black market.

During the operation, officers recovered a laptop and several pieces of jewellery. One of the suspects was arrested shortly after an alleged burglary at a home in Orihuela. Those detained are aged between sixteen and forty-five and are accused of being part of an organised criminal group.
