A large tree branch has collapsed onto Goleta Street in Punta Prima, in Orihuela Costa, leading to the temporary closure of the road and pavements. The incident occurred at the junction with Los Pinos Street, an area known for its mature pine trees. No injuries or material damage were reported, and access was restored after the branch was removed on Monday.

Los Pinos Street has recently undergone long-awaited improvement works, including new pavements and resurfacing, aimed at addressing long-standing problems caused by tree roots. The council says the project was designed to improve pedestrian safety and reduce damage to the road and nearby homes.

The incident has renewed calls from residents and opposition groups for a comprehensive inspection of street trees across Orihuela Costa. Concerns have been raised for several years following previous tree and palm falls, some linked to poor maintenance and pests such as the red palm weevil. Calls have also been made for a consistent inspection and pruning plan, particularly after a fatal palm tree accident in neighbouring Torrevieja highlighted the potential risks.
