Santa Pola Town Council has formally approved changes to the planning conditions for the sports facilities site on Avenida de Albacete, where the municipal swimming pool is located. The decision was taken at a full council meeting and finalises a planning document that received no objections during its initial stages.

The approved changes alter the internal configuration of the building, allowing it to increase from three to five storeys, as set out in the 2008 General Urban Plan, while keeping the same maximum building volume. This adjustment is intended to make possible the future construction of a residence for athletes linked to the existing sports complex.

The next step in the process will be a thirty-day public exhibition of the viability study and the project submitted by the company involved. The council is also working on the tender specifications, which will define the obligations of the successful bidder for both construction and future management of the site.

Local leaders have stressed that public access to the swimming pool will be non-negotiable. The proposed project includes a sports residence alongside facilities such as a pool, gym, sauna and restaurant, with all interested companies able to bid under conditions set by the council.
