The body of a homeless man has been found in the courtyard of a former municipal nursery in Torrevieja. Local Police made the discovery yesterday morning after being alerted by council workers inspecting the site on Blasco Ibáñez Street.

Paramedics attended the scene but were only able to confirm the man’s death. Officers from the Guardia Civil, including the Judicial Police, have taken over the investigation and have said there were no initial signs of violence.

Residents in the area said the man had been using the outdoor courtyard as a place to sleep after gaining access by climbing the perimeter fence. The council had sealed off the interior of the building in recent weeks due to its poor condition, ahead of its planned demolition for a future innovation and business centre.

Sources close to the investigation indicated the man may have been dead for several days. A forensic specialist later authorised the removal of the body, and a post-mortem examination is expected to establish the exact cause of death.
