The Conselleria de Sanidad has sent an instruction to all health departments in the Valencian Community, including the ten departments in Alicante province, recommending the use of surgical masks in Generalitat-run healthcare settings in certain circumstances. The advice covers symptomatic people in shared spaces, staff attending symptomatic cases and everyone in vulnerable areas such as chemotherapy units, transplant wards, intensive care and emergency departments. Individual centres may extend measures after local risk assessment.

Although the region remains at a low epidemic level, incidence has risen to 787.8 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, almost fifty points higher than a week earlier. Influenza activity has increased sharply this month — rising from 13.3 to 44.1 cases per 100,000 in the third week of November, a growth of about 231.6%. Severe influenza cases have doubled from 1.1 to 2.6 per 100,000. Children under four record the highest respiratory virus incidence, while people aged over eighty-five show the most hospital admissions.

The health ministry has activated a contingency plan and sent SMS reminders to priority groups to promote vaccination. Vaccination against influenza and COVID-19 has been offered since 3 November, with intensified immunisation in care homes, schools, special education centres and day centres to protect vulnerable groups and preserve healthcare capacity.
