Vega Baja University Hospital has obtained basic accreditation in the Antimicrobial Stewardship Programme (PROA), making it the second public hospital in the Valencian Community, together with Elche General, to achieve this recognition. The accreditation certifies the hospital’s commitment to safe, effective and rational use of antibiotics with the aim of limiting antimicrobial resistance and improving clinical outcomes.

The basic category recognises the development of solid structures and procedures that allow systematic therapeutic review, ongoing monitoring, staff training and evaluation of quality indicators in antimicrobial use. These measures are intended to standardise practice and support better patient safety and care.

Hospital leaders have credited the achievement to coordinated work across medical, pharmacy, nursing, preventive medicine and clinical management teams. They say the accreditation strengthens the centre’s continuous improvement strategy and aligns it with the recommendations of the National Health System and international organisations on controlling bacterial resistance.
