Cartagena’s Local Police have confirmed complaints from several taxi drivers about private vehicles carrying passengers illegally near the city’s bus and Renfe stations. The reports, the force said, prompted an inquiry and monitoring of suspected vehicles.
Chief commissioner Pedro Moreno has said officers have made progress in the investigation and are keeping suspected vehicles under surveillance. He has acknowledged the problem and confirmed the force has registered the complaints and is following up with targeted checks. Moreno said the aim is to protect licensed taxi drivers and ensure passenger safety.
The police have said they will launch a specific enforcement campaign shortly to clamp down on unlicensed taxi activity in the area. No details were given on the timing or penalties, but drivers and passengers are being advised to use licensed services.
