An off-duty Guardia Civil officer from the Puesto Principal de Mazarrón has rescued a woman from a smoke-filled house in Mazarrón. The officer, who was away from duty and walking through the town, detected heavy smoke coming from a first-floor window and alerted the prevention patrol that was on duty before entering the building himself to check for people in danger.
He found the homeowner at the front door of the flat showing clear signs of smoke inhalation. The officer assisted her out of the property and paramedics attended the scene; she was treated with oxygen and transferred to hospital as a precaution, with injuries described as minor.
Emergency services including the Local Police and the Fire Brigade responded. Firefighters have confirmed the blaze started in the kitchen and they extinguished it, using ventilators to clear smoke from the property. The flat has suffered fire and smoke damage and an investigation into the exact cause is under way.
