A 44-year-old British man has been arrested in Benidorm after officers from the Policía Nacional spotted him acting nervously in a hotel complex on Monday. Officers had no identification for the man and accompanied him to his room, where they confirmed his identity. He has been identified as a fugitive wanted by UK authorities on two counts of sexual assault and as the subject of a ten-year prison sentence.

The international arrest warrant was issued on 12 November in connection with alleged offences in London in 2020 and shortly after. According to police, the man had been released on bail in 2020 but fled the United Kingdom before a scheduled court hearing, breaching his bail conditions. His evasive behaviour drew officers’ attention during a routine patrol.

After confirming his identity he has been placed in custody and handed over to the Central Court of Instruction Number 3 of the National Court. The court will process extradition formalities as requested by UK authorities. An officer said: “The man’s evasive behaviour immediately raised our suspicions.”
