There has been movement from public institutions over the ongoing lack of heating at CEIP Playas de Orihuela, where the school has been without a gas supply for more than four months. The heating system has been inoperative since 2024, a situation families say has directly affected the health and wellbeing of both pupils and teaching staff.

The Association of Families of Pupils says daily protests began a week ago to highlight what they describe as a serious situation, with around 125 consecutive days without a working boiler. Families have also launched a petition after repeated complaints failed to bring a solution.

Following these complaints, the regional Ministry of Education has formally acknowledged the issue and said it is being processed within its responsibilities, passing technical matters to the relevant bodies. However, families say the problem remains unresolved, with classrooms still at unsuitable temperatures.

The Valencian Ombudsman has now accepted a complaint and opened an investigation, citing possible impacts on fundamental rights. The families have welcomed the move, but insist their priority remains an immediate fix so the school can provide safe and dignified conditions.
