The mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón, has held a working meeting with representatives of the newly created La Mata and Torrelamata Residents’ Association. He was joined by the councillor for Citizen Participation, Trudy Páez, and the councillor for the Environment, Antonio Vidal. The meeting took place yesterday and included the association’s president, Cayetano Pérez.

During the discussion, the municipal representatives congratulated the group on its formation and highlighted the importance of neighbourhood associations. They said organised community groups play a key role in encouraging citizen participation, identifying local needs, and channelling proposals to improve neighbourhoods and their surroundings.

The association has been set up to enhance social, cultural, and community life in the La Mata district, covering the area between Cabo Cervera and Puerto Romano. Its priorities include organising leisure, cultural, and festive activities, improving neighbourly relations, and addressing urban and environmental concerns, while working closely with local institutions.

Mr Dolón said the council would continue to support initiatives that strengthen the social fabric and improve quality of life in Torrevieja’s neighbourhoods and outlying districts. The Citizen Participation department also described the new association as a key link between residents and the local authority, helping to build a more cohesive and participatory city.
