Torrevieja Council and Salins España have confirmed significant progress on an agreement that will allow the restoration of the former La Química industrial complex and its opening to the public. A key part of the project is the creation of a bathing area in the Pink Lagoon, alongside facilities linked to wellness and thalassotherapy.

Mayor Eduardo Dolón and Salins general director Óscar de Vicente have both underlined their firm commitment to the project. Legal services from both sides are currently drafting the agreement, which is expected to be approved by the Local Government Board in the coming days.

The council plans to invest eleven point one million euros in the scheme. The funding will focus on preserving the site’s industrial heritage and enabling bathing and health-related uses, while ensuring full respect for the natural environment and compatibility with ongoing salt production by the Torrevieja Salt Company.

Studies by the University of Alicante, Complutense University of Madrid and Carlos the Third University support the health benefits of the lagoon’s waters and muds. Once formally signed, the agreement will be sent to the State Heritage Directorate for final approval, marking a key step towards opening the historic site to residents and visitors.
