Terra Natura Murcia has been developing ongoing environmental enrichment programmes aimed at improving the physical and mental wellbeing of the animals living at the park. These actions form part of the daily work of the technical team and are applied to all species, regardless of their size or natural habitat.

Environmental enrichment involves a range of sensory, physical and cognitive stimuli designed to help animals express natural behaviours. By encouraging exploration, physical activity, curiosity and interaction with their surroundings, the measures help to reduce monotony and support more balanced behaviour.

The park uses a variety of methods, including scents, objects and different types of interaction, all planned through a specific schedule and tailored to each enclosure. These activities are regularly reviewed and adapted in line with each species’ needs and established animal welfare guidelines. Visitors also learn about the importance of this work through educational talks.

Park director Gustavo Martínez has described the programme as a clear example of Terra Natura Murcia’s commitment to animal welfare and to responsible management based on technical expertise, education and continuous improvement.
