Torrevieja is in discussions to host the filming of a future episode of the television programme MasterChef following a meeting at FITUR with representatives from Shine Iberia, the show’s production company. The talks were led by Mayor Eduardo Dolón and the councillor for tourism and hospitality, Rosario Martínez.

During the meeting, the council presented a range of locations across the municipality where the programme could set up its competition kitchens. The aim is to showcase Torrevieja’s distinctive settings, identity and tourism appeal to a large national and international television audience.

The council believes hosting MasterChef would deliver significant media exposure, as it is one of the most-watched programmes on Spanish television and is broadcast in more than 200 territories worldwide. It would also help promote local gastronomy and highlight the work of hospitality businesses, particularly as the local hospitality association marks its fiftieth anniversary.

MasterChef is an internationally recognised cooking competition format that has been adapted in more than fifty countries. Torrevieja’s bid forms part of a wider strategy at FITUR to position the city as an attractive, competitive destination capable of hosting major audiovisual productions and high-profile events.
