Spanish National Police have arrested a man on suspicion of drug trafficking and offences against road safety after stopping his car at a routine vehicle checkpoint in the Lo Campano district of Cartagena.
Officers noticed the vehicle approaching the checkpoint while making unusual manoeuvres, apparently in an attempt to avoid the police. After stopping the car and identifying the driver, they discovered he had never held a driving licence. His underage daughter was seated in the rear of the vehicle at the time.
Police said the man appeared nervous and gave inconsistent answers, prompting a search of the car. During the inspection, officers found a package hidden inside the vehicle containing two hundred and twenty-one point five grams of cocaine.
The man has been charged with drug trafficking and offences against road safety and has been placed at the disposal of the judicial authorities, who will decide on any precautionary measures.
