The council in Almoradí has installed ten automated external defibrillators across the town, officially making the municipality a cardioprotected city. The initiative has been delivered through the council’s Department of Citizen Participation and funded by participatory budgeting.

Participatory budgeting allows residents to propose and decide on projects aimed at improving the town. In this case, a proposal from a local resident, combined with the council’s commitment, has led to a project focused on health prevention and public safety.

Following a preliminary study, the defibrillators have been installed in strategic locations with high footfall, including cultural venues, sports facilities, and educational centres. These include theatres, the municipal auditorium, sports complexes, secondary schools and primary schools across Almoradí.

The councillor for Citizen Participation, Víctor Argilés, said the project shows that listening to residents and investing in prevention can improve quality of life and save lives. Mayor María Gómez added that becoming a cardioprotected city is an investment in safety and wellbeing, highlighting the benefits of cooperation between the council and the community.
