The Ayuntamiento de San Javier has approved plans for two new sections of cycle lane as part of its ongoing strategy to promote sustainable mobility across the municipality. The works will be carried out by construction firm González Soto and will focus on Avenida Pinatar and the road linking Santiago de la Ribera with the roundabout at the old airport access.

The project has a total budget of €548,251 and an expected execution period of four months. According to council documents, the aim is to develop a coherent, long term approach to mobility, with a particular focus on softer forms of transport such as bicycles and personal mobility vehicles.

One of the key elements is a new cycle lane along Avenida Pinatar, starting at the junction with Calle Jabalina on the edge of San Javier town centre. It will run towards the La Paloma roundabout on the SJ-77 and continue to the roundabout serving the Dos Mares shopping centre. This will fill a missing 2.5 kilometre section and create a continuous route connecting with San Pedro del Pinatar.

The council says the scheme builds on recent improvements to the local cycling network, including new and refurbished routes linking residential areas, sports facilities and the Santiago de la Ribera seafront.
