A man has been arrested in Calp after police intercepted a van suspected of being involved in the theft of gas bottles from private properties. Local Police were alerted yesterday afternoon by the 112 emergency service after reports that suspects had jumped a fence and entered a private plot.
Patrols from the Local Police and the Guardia Civil coordinated efforts to locate the vehicle used by the suspects as they fled the scene. Officers managed to block the van on the N-332, bringing it to a stop.
The driver of the vehicle tested positive for alcohol. When officers searched the van, they found several bottles of butane and propane gas, which were seized. Police believe the gas bottles may have been stolen from nearby private plots. Butane bottles are particularly valuable during the winter months, with prices around 15 euros per bottle.
