Residents living in the centre of Mazarrón have complained about a serious rat infestation close to the town hall, which they say has been ongoing for around a year. Neighbours on Pablo Picasso Street report that rodents are entering homes, moving across rooftops, patios and pavements, and creating a public health risk.

Those affected say they are unable to open windows because rats get inside, and that the animals are frequently seen outside, particularly at sunset. Residents claim the situation is especially dangerous for children and older people, and say there have been incidents where rats have attempted to bite passers-by.

According to neighbours, the rats are coming from a nearby private property occupied by two brothers, who are alleged to be feeding the animals. They say repeated complaints have been made and videos shared on social media to pressure authorities into action, but the problem remains unresolved.

Mazarrón Town Council has said several departments, including Health, Services and Social Services, have been working together for months to control and exterminate rats in the surrounding area. The local authority says it cannot enter the property without the owners’ consent and has confirmed that a request for judicial authorisation is currently in progress.
