Torrevieja’s Governing Board has awarded the contract for surveillance and access control of municipal facilities to Vigiprot SLU. The agreement carries an annual charge of €118,433 including VAT. It has a minimum term of two years with the option of two further one‑year extensions; if fully extended the contract’s value would reach €473,732 over four years.

The contract will cover the market area at Parque Antonio Soria on market days, the municipal football pitches, the town hall, the census and statistics office and facilities attached to the social welfare area. The specifications note that the growth in municipal premises and shortages or redeployment of local police personnel have made private security necessary to ensure service guarantees; the contract also allows the firm to provide cover for any additional municipal dependencies that may arise without amending the agreement.

The new contract includes a series of improvements: two hundred additional hours for auxiliaries and two hundred additional hours for guards for urgent, weekend, holiday and night needs; complementary training for three guards in first aid, semi‑automatic defibrillator use and rescue from lifts; and technology tools for real‑time control with direct access for the local police, including position tracking, digitalised reports and performance indicators. The company will install two licence‑plate reader cameras, valued at about €1,500 each, which will become municipal property at the end of the contract. The municipality notes the initial tendered sum was lower than the previous 2021 base price of €158,253 per year.
