Benijófar Town Hall has launched a pioneering scheme to improve access to housing for local young people. The council will cede a 4,200 m2 municipal plot on Calle Formentera, at the corner of Rosalía de Castro and Pilar Miró. The land will be divided into 30 plots of 120 m2 to permit construction of 30 single‑family homes of about 100 m2 each.

The plots will be granted under a 75‑year demanial concession. Beneficiaries aged 18 to 45 will act as self‑promoters and must follow the council’s architectural pre‑project. By removing the cost of land the scheme aims to reduce final prices. Full application rules, selection criteria and deadlines will be published in the coming weeks and the council is holding an information meeting this evening at 19:30 in the town hall plenary chamber.

Mayor Luis Rodríguez has said the project is a firm commitment to local young people and to the future of the municipality. He added the measure forms part of a broader strategy to expand affordable housing and strengthen the town’s social and economic fabric. Separately, Rodríguez and the director general of the Valencian Housing and Land Entity (EVHA) have signed the transfer of a 1,898 m2 plot on Calle Donante de Sangre, 191, for inclusion in the Plan Vive programme to build around 30 protected homes. EVHA expects to publish the tender in the coming weeks using a permuta mechanism so private builders will deliver units for the public rental stock.
