Orihuela City Council has announced it will hold its ordinary plenary for November at the council seat on Orihuela Costa on Thursday, 27 November. It is the first time the council has held a plenary on the coast. The mayoral decree has set the start time at 9:15 and the Party for the Independence of Orihuela Costa has called a demonstration fifteen minutes earlier to protest a rise in rubbish collection fees and service failings.

The call for participation registers five citizen questions, including enquiries about cultural and civic centres on Orihuela Costa, a punctual amendment to the general urban plan for a proposed sports city, a request to use municipal premises for “Teatro Expresión”, concerns about a potential waste treatment plant in the municipality, and a question addressed to the Costa councillor. Councillors will also debate six motions.

Among those, two motions from the Socialist group and Cambiemos will mark 25 November, the international day for the elimination of violence against women. The PSOE will press for an immediate regional election and to defend Valencian self-government, while Cambiemos will raise improvements to public transport in Orihuela Costa. Ciudadanos will present motions on a municipal nomenclature ordinance and on enforcing the council’s citizen participation rules. The session will also include questions on street maintenance and cleaning contracts, credit modifications and intervention reports on commercial arrears and the council’s average payment period for suppliers.
