A car has caught fire after being struck from behind on the N-332 near Torrevieja on Sunday shortly after one o’clock in the afternoon. Torrevieja fire station crews have extinguished the blaze and removed the vehicle from the carriageway to allow traffic to resume. No other vehicles or people were injured, and the regional emergency centre said no ambulance was required.
The N-332 is the busiest road in the Vega Baja and the incident briefly disrupted traffic until the vehicle was cleared. Firefighters worked to ensure surrounding vehicles were not affected and to secure the scene after extinguishing the fire.
Investigators say the most likely causes are a ruptured fuel line or tank, which can leak petrol and ignite, or an electrical short caused by damaged wiring. While car fires in summer often occur without a collision because of overheating or electrical faults, this case appears linked to the rear-end impact.
