The Easy Horse Care Rescue Centre has been left devastated after a suspected arson attack on its charity shop in Ciudad Quesada late on Thursday night. Emergency services responded quickly and managed to stop the fire before it reached the interior of the building — a narrow escape, as the entire row of shops was at risk. The front of the shop was badly damaged, and the inside is now thick with smoke, forcing the store to close temporarily. Early reports suggest petrol was used to start the blaze, leading investigators to treat it as suspected arson.

The Quesada shop is more than just a retail outlet — it’s a vital source of income for the rescue centre. Alongside stores in La Zenia and La Siesta, it plays a crucial role in funding the daily care of over 120 rescued horses, ponies, and donkeys. The closure is a significant blow to the centre’s operations, which rely heavily on donations and shop income to cover food, vet bills, and upkeep. For the manager and team of volunteers who work tirelessly to support the centre, the incident has been a heartbreaking setback.
