On Sunday, June twenty-second, twenty twenty-five, members of the Costa Campoamor Residents’ Association met with Manuel Mestre, the Councillor for Coasts, to discuss unresolved issues in their area. The residents provided a list of grievances including the urgent need for cleaning riverbanks to prevent flooding, addressing waste collection inadequacies, and the necessity for improved infrastructure such as sidewalks that are currently overgrown with vegetation.

Residents pointed out that the neglected state of the riverbanks and road maintenance presents significant risks, including increased flooding potential from heavy rains and public health hazards due to pests. They expressed particular concern about the inadequate number of rubbish bins along the coast, with no clear answer from Mestre on how many of the new bins allocated for Orihuela would serve their area.

The community also raised issues regarding urban planning, specifically opposing a development plan that would increase housing in a flood-prone area adjacent to the river. They demand immediate pest control measures and more beach cleaning services, highlighting the danger of mosquito infestations and the erosion of popular beach spots.

Finally, the representatives urged for increased police presence in response to a rise in burglaries and violent incidents, stressing that the available resources are insufficient to ensure safety in Orihuela Costa. The association hopes that the council will act swiftly to address these pressing needs as the summer season approaches.
