The local government of Torrevieja has approved a new contract for the maintenance of its public lighting system, marking a significant investment of four million three hundred sixty thousand seven hundred thirty-nine euros over the next five years. The base annual price for the contract is eight hundred seventy-two thousand one hundred forty-seven euros, including VAT, and includes an initial period of four years, with a possibility for a one-year extension.

This contract encompasses comprehensive maintenance for all public lighting installations and decorative lighting for municipal buildings. The Councillor for Public Lighting, Concha Sala, emphasised that the primary objective is to prevent electrical failures, repair installations, and implement preventive maintenance to ensure efficient operation.

A notable feature of the new contract is the implementation of an automated system for controlling street lighting based on sunset and sunrise. This smart lighting management not only aims to improve efficiency but also aligns with the council’s focus on energy savings and sustainability. Recently, the council revamped over one thousand street lighting points, reducing the installed power from two hundred fifty kilowatts to just seventy-three kilowatts.
