Two investigated after fighting cockerels found in Torre Pacheco

The Guardia Civil has launched proceedings against two people following an investigation into alleged animal cruelty in Torre Pacheco, Murcia. Specialists from the Nature Protection Service, known as SEPRONA, began inquiries after receiving reports of fighting cockerels and goldfinches being kept at a property in the town. Torrevieja Council has installed 30 new nesting boxes for swifts as part of its Urban Biodiversity Plan. Drink-driver stopped after travelling without wheel on N-332

A driver has been arrested after travelling without one wheel on the N-332 from Torrevieja, creating what police described as a serious danger to other road users. Several witnesses alerted the authorities after spotting the vehicle being driven in a hazardous condition. Fifteen migrants rescued off Benidorm coast

Maritime Rescue has saved 15 people of sub-Saharan origin after their small boat was located around 25 miles off the coast of Benidorm. A fishing vessel spotted the precarious craft on Wednesday and alerted the Guardia Civil in Alicante. Rescue services then deployed the Salvamar Leo from Valencia to assist those on board. Torrevieja Council has removed more than 125 stray cockerels, hens and chicks from public squares, streets and green spaces after awarding a specialist contract in October.
