Two men aged 21 and 31 have been remanded in custody after allegedly attempting to rob an 86-year-old woman in Torrevieja and leaving her seriously injured.

The incident took place on 25 March at around 9pm in the town centre. According to witnesses, the pair tried to steal the woman’s handbag by pulling it from her, causing her to fall heavily to the ground during the struggle. Although they failed to take the bag, the victim suffered a broken arm and later required surgery.

Guardia Civil officers arrived at the scene alongside medical services and gathered detailed descriptions from members of the public. Within three hours, they located two suspects nearby who matched those descriptions. A search uncovered items including glasses and a cap believed to have been used to conceal their identity.

Both men were arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery with violence. After appearing before a court, a judge ordered their provisional imprisonment without bail. The victim is recovering at a relative’s home following her operation.
