Orihuela Council began repair work on Wednesday on two sections of the coastal promenade between Cala Capitán and La Caleta that had been closed for safety reasons. The areas were sealed off nearly two months ago after local police restricted access due to the risk of collapse.

Heavy rainfall in March caused landslides along the route, including a partial collapse on the stretch between Cabo Roig and Cala Capitán. Affected areas included the lower part of the seafront path, close to the waterline, where a sinkhole raised fears the walkway could give way.

The work is being carried out by the municipal company Ecoplan after the council obtained authorisation from the provincial coastal service, which operates under the national ministry. The repairs are expected to take around two weeks.

The promenade forms part of the Cabo Roig Blue Trail, a 2.5 km coastal route recognised for its environmental value, accessibility and educational features. It is one of the most popular walking routes in the Vega Baja and is included in local tourism and environmental initiatives.
