A 77-year-old woman has died and three other people have been injured following a house fire in Orihuela Costa, Alicante province.

Emergency services were called to the single-family home on Calle Liberiades at around 22:00 on Saturday. According to the Emergency Information and Coordination Centre (CICU), a SAMU ambulance attended and carried out resuscitation and stabilisation efforts on the woman, but she did not respond and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two other women, whose ages have not been confirmed, and a 78-year-old man were treated for smoke inhalation. All three were transferred to Torrevieja Hospital by non-urgent ambulance.

The Alicante Provincial Fire Consortium said the fire started in the kitchen. A sergeant, a corporal and six firefighters from Torrevieja station took part in the operation, supported by a command unit, a heavy urban pump and a turntable ladder. The fire was brought under control quickly, and crews finished work at 23:45.
