The Guardia Civil have investigated a 47-year-old man as a suspected perpetrator of an environmental crime after discovering an unauthorised mechanical workshop in a rural part of Rojales. The premises have now been closed with the support of the local council and Local Police.

The investigation began after officers from Seprona in Guardamar detected a hydrocarbon spill in an irrigation channel known as the Comuna ditch. Enquiries led them to focus on nearby premises where a mechanical repair business was believed to be operating without the required administrative licence.

Once sufficient evidence had been gathered, officers inspected the site and found several vehicles under repair, along with tools and equipment linked to mechanical work. They also discovered waste materials such as batteries and lubricants scattered around the property, as well as a septic tank containing traces of hydrocarbon discharges.

The Guardia Civil warned that such conditions pose a serious risk of hazardous waste seeping into the soil and potentially affecting groundwater and nearby watercourses. The man is now under investigation for a possible environmental offence, and administrative penalty proceedings have also been initiated.
