Part of the façade of one of Cartagena’s most emblematic modernist buildings has been covered as a precaution after safety concerns were identified.
Workers installed protective netting and heavy sheeting on the upper section of the building on Wednesday after several decorative elements were found to be at risk of becoming detached. According to sources familiar with the situation, the measure has been taken to prevent potential accidents while the structure is assessed.
The building is considered one of the city’s architectural landmarks. It was recently featured in an exhibition that revealed the original plans, confirming that it was designed by the renowned modernist architect VÃctor BeltrÃ.
Further inspections are expected to determine what restoration work may be required and how long the protective covering will remain in place.
